Some things in life are worth the wait.

For Seattle Mariners all-time great Edgar Martinez, being elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame was one of those things, and the call he received to notify him of his election was about ten years in the making.

For Martinez, the call came in his final year of eligibility, and obviously, he was emotional when he got the news.

The nod is obviously well-deserved, and Martinez still holds a throng of records for the Mariners, which includes runs scored with a staggering 1,219. Martinez is also a 2-time Batting Champ and 5-time Silver Slugger, and holds a permanent place in the hearts of Mariners fans, who made this very obvious when the news of his election broke.

The seven-time All-Star now serves at a hitting coach for the Mariners, which is fitting, since he’s been called one of the most feared hitters in the history of baseball, and Seattle’s most beloved player of all-time.

His fellow nominees are impressive, to say the least, and the 2019 class bolsters the talent of Mariano Rivera, who became the first player to be voted in unanimously, Mike Mussina, and Roy Halladay.

Amid the excitement, Martinez took to Twitter to voice his gratitude to for the overwhelming wave of support.

Seems like his character matches his batting arm, and we’re thrilled for him.
