Elias Pettersson has one of the friendliest contracts in the NHL right now as the 20-year-old is only in the first year of his three-year entry level contract. As a result Pettersson only counts as a $925,000 cap hit on the payroll, but there’s plenty of opportunities for him to make as much as $3,775,000 each season.

On Wednesday, the fifth overall pick in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft had himself quite the day as he started it off by getting named to his very first NHL All-Star Game and capped it all off with his first career hat-trick in Vancouver’s overtime victory over Ottawa. As a result, he earned himself an extra $425,000.

Pettersson earned himself an extra $212,500 for being named to the NHL All-Star Game and then picked up another $212,500 for scoring his 20th goal of the season.

It’s hard to believe Pettersson is just a 20-year-old playing in his first NHL season. Through his first 37 career games the Sundsvall, Sweden native has already scored 22 goals to go along with 20 assists for 42 points, and has a 17-point lead over Colin White in the NHL rookie scoring race.
