The Utica Comets, the Vancouver Canucks’ AHL affiliate, signed Colton Saucerman to a professional tryout offer earlier this week and it didn’t take very long for the Colorado Springs, Colorado native to become a hit across North America.

With a last name like ‘Saucerman’ and a beard as thick as his, it’s no surprise that the hockey community instantly fell in love with the 26-year-old before he even made his Comets debut. Well, on Wednesday night the minor leaguer made a great first impression and added to the hype by opening the scoring in the first period of his first game with his new team.

On top of scoring the opening goal in his debut with the team, it was even better that a majority of the fans in attendance were cheering him on after his goal while rocking their own Saucerman beards.

Not only was it his first goal as a member of the Utica Comets, but it was his first career AHL goal.
