There's few things in hockey that gets fans more excited than a heated rivalry.

While a good Original Six matchup is usually the kind of rivalry that gets hockey fans excited, some newer ones have emerged that might be countering the rivalries fans have grown to love.

Recently, the Battle of Alberta has risen to the surface as the most heated rivalry in the NHL, and fans are absolutely loving it.

The Kassian and Tkachuk beef is the obvious one, but last night's game revealed that the rivalry runs right though both rosters, with even famously level-headed Connor McDavid losing his cool at a couple points, and an underdog tilt that saw Sean Monahan drop the mitts with Ryan Nugent Hopkins and rival the anticipated heavyweight match. Of course, the game ended in dramatic fashion with an epic shootout and a save for the ages.

Overall, it was the rivalry game everyone was hoping for, and fans were beyond excited.

The intensity of the game has fans foaming at the bit for a playoff series between these two rivals, and honestly, we are too.  Luckily for us, we won't have to wait long to see this intensity again, and we'll see the Battle of Alberta again on Saturday night.
