Wednesday, October 3rd is a date all Leafs fans have marked down and circled on their calendars not just because it's the first game of the 2018/19 season for Toronto, but because it's John Tavares' first game as a Leaf.

The 27-year-old made his childhood dream of playing for his hometown team become a reality on July 1st when he signed with the Leafs and that signing alone has brought so much excitement and hope to the city of Toronto.

While Tavares' debut is still a long time away (over two months), just the sight of him playing in a blue and white practice jersey alongside Auston Matthews was enough to get fans even more excited for the future.

Tavares and Matthews smiling ear-to-ear is a sight Leafs fans will never get tired of seeing.

We told you the excitement is real and for any fans worried about the Tavares and Matthews relationship and the captaincy debate, this short clip should put your mind at ease.
