As we continue to get used to the new way of life that comes with a pandemic, it can be easy to forget the actual significance of the virus. It may not seem as scary as it did when we dove into uncertainty back in March, but it’s just as dangerous as it ever was.

Hearing a first-hand account from someone you know, or know of, can act as a sobering reality. For baseball fans, hearing Freddie Freeman’s first-hand account may offer just that.

After testing positive for COVID-19, it was unclear how hard the virus had hit the Atlanta Braves first baseman. On Saturday, Freeman opened up on a video press conference when discussing just how bad he’d been hit. His fever had reached a point where he thought he may have to go to the hospital, and he genuinely feared for his life.

When an athlete of Freddie Freeman’s caliber gets hit with the virus this hard, it’s awfully scary to hear about.

Freeman claims that he hasn’t lost any strength through the ordeal, but that he doesn’t know if he’ll be ready in time for the Braves’ season opener.
