Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Frederik Andersen has been lights out lately, adding to his recent hot streak with a second consecutive shutout last night against the Montreal Canadiens. The 28-year-old has now won five games in a row and boasts an impressive 12-6-0 record with a 2.87 GAA on the season. While his 32 save effort at the Bell Centre was impressive, he managed to reach a milestone that is unrelated to stopping pucks in the crease.

There have been few Danish hockey players who have found their name on an NHL score sheet. In fact, there have only been 12, with Detroit Red Wings forward Frans Nielson leading the way with 399. After recording an assist on Nazem Kadri’s second period goal, Andersen moved into sole possession of 10th place on the all-time NHL points list by Danish players.

Andersen, who is the only Danish goalie in NHL history, reached the total in 209 games. He now sits ahead of former first round pick Nicklas Jensen and 2009 Philadelphia Flyers draft pick Oliver Lauridsen. Both players are currently playing for Jokiret Helsinki of the KHL.

While the milestone is noteworthy, it just goes to show how few Danish players have managed to crack the NHL. Of all active goaltenders, he sits 22nd in the category along with Colorado avalanche goaltender Semyon Varlomov. Tom Barrasso leads all NHL netminders with 48 in 777 games.

Goaltenders usually aren’t linked to goal-scoring too often, but Freddy now has a nice new accomplishment he can brag about in his home country.
