Georges St. Pierre’s return to the octagon may have been a short lived, at least for the time being.

The UFC middleweight champ issued a statement on his Facebook page confirming that he has colitis, and will be forced to put another halt on his fighting career after the 36-year-old just returned from a four-year hiatus away from MMA.

GSP defeated Michael Bisping at UFC 217 in New York back on Novemeber 4th to take the middleweight title from Bisping and improve his MMA record to 26-2 and 20-2 in the UFC. St-Pierre had to undergo a colonoscopy following a post-fight vacation where it was first discovered that he had ulcerative colitis.

It was expected that GSP would face the 185-pound interim titleholder Robert Whittaker, but that’ll have to be put on hold. Whittaker was a good sport about it, offering his condolences to the Canadian champ.

There is no expected timetable of a return for GSP. Stay tuned for an announcement in the coming weeks.

Colitis is when the inner lining of the colon becomes inflamed which can result in cramping, diarrhea, and severe abdominal pain, and can lead to major swelling, fever and fatigue.
