Listen, we’re no stranger to unusual motivational tactics in sports. Every athletes has their own rituals and superstitions, and especially when you get to the highest levels, the pros will try just about anything to get a little more out of themselves and surpass the competition.

Now, with that said, this Giannis Antetokounmpo story still holds up as pretty freaking weird. A career 71.7 percent free throw shooter — and down to 57.5 percent through 12 games so far this season — Giannis tried to incorporate his girlfriend into his workouts by having her run for each free throw he missed, all in the name of trying to improve.

In his most recent game against the Dallas Mavericks on Friday, Giannis shot 1-for-10 from the stripe. So... that’s how that’s going so far.

While the Bucks, reloaded with the addition of Jrue Holiday this season, are still standing atop the Eastern Conference with a 9-4 record, Giannis’ free throw woes have come under the microscope. It sounds like he’s just going to put in the reps until this works itself out, so for his girlfriend’s sake, here’s hoping he’s moved on to a new motivational tactic too!
