Hayley Wickenheiser received a very memorable phone call on Tuesday, possibly the most memorable phone call of her life. Unfortunately, she missed it.
Wickenheiser was officially elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame Class of 2019 for her immense contributions to the game, notably by being a huge inspiration to women and girls in sport. She is widely considered one of, if not the greatest female hockey player of all time.
She’s also the first woman to enter the Hall in her first year of eligibility.
She missed the call, but she had a pretty good reason.
As anyone who grew up with cellphones through schooling knows, there’s not always the freedom of answering a call. Wickenheiser found herself in that situation, and when she got out of class she explains that her phone had blown up with messages
