Henrik Lundqvist announced last week that he will be sitting out the 2021 NHL season due to a heart condition recently discovered by doctors. The degree of the condition was unknown, however a tweet issued by Lundqvist on Monday morning provided details on the extent of it.

Hank revealed to his followers on social media that he is scheduled to have open heart surgery- more specifically for an aortic valve replacement, aortic root and ascending aortic replacement. The 38-year-old ended his statement on a positive note and appears to be in good spirits. Lundqvist broke the news of his heart condition on December 17.

Very tough news, but fans have been showing tons of support for the future Hall of Famer:

After spending 15 seasons with the Rangers, Lundqvist was scheduled to debut with the Capitals in January after signing a one-year, $1.5 million deal in the offseason. In 30 games started last season, the Swede posted a 10-12-3 record with a .905 save percent average.

All the best in your recovery Hank, the hockey world has your back!
