And just like that, the second phase of the NHL Draft Lottery is complete. Sitting atop the podium of the Alexis Lafreniere sweepstakes is the New York Rangers. Who’s standing next to them in 2nd place, though? Third?

Realistically, it doesn’t matter at all. Only the ball that shoots to the top of the display matters, so you may as well just forget the rest once the winner has been determined.

You know what, though? There’s no hockey on tonight. Humour us with a little slow motion analysis.

As tweeted by our very own Corwin McCallum, a slow motion replay shows exactly how the Rangers ball found it’s way to the top. Through the grainy, blown-up video you can actually see the fates of some of the other teams as they’re being determined.

For the Toronto Maple Leafs, it’s essentially the Lottery equivalent of hitting the post.

As you can see, the Leafs ball looks as though it is in a fairly optimal position to be sucked up the chute. Unfortunately, the Minnesota Wild ball comes flying into the scene, totally disrupting the Leafs ball and sending it violently ricocheting off the rim of the chute and back into the pack of Draft losers.

Once again, we realize none of this matters. We’re just here for the comical puns and the overdramatic metaphors.
