Brad Marchand has earned a reputation over the course of his NHL career for being a pest on the ice, but Tuesday night the 30-year-old took things too far and let his emotions get the best of him.

With just over one minute left in the third period and the Bruins trailing the Blue Jackets by one goal, Boston was putting on the pressure late and had a chance to tie the game multiple times but could not beat Sergei Bobrovsky. During the stoppage in play Marchand decided to get in a cheap shot on Blue Jackets defenceman Scott Harrington while his back and the officials’ backs were turned to the Bruins winger.

Since the officials didn’t see the cheap shot by Marchand there wasn’t a penalty on the play and fans were livid – and rightfully so.

Some of his antics on the ice can be pretty funny, but kissing someone or licking someone isn't going to give them a concussion or a possible career-altering injury. If Marchand doesn’t end up with a hearing for this cheap shot you can bet fans are going to be even more outraged.

We’ll have to wait and see what the Department of Player Safety has to say about this.
