The Carolina Hurricanes have done a tremendous job transforming into one of the NHL’s most fan-friendly franchises over the past few years and they’re only going to continue to grow year after year.

On Monday, Carolina Hurricanes president and general manager Don Waddell got the week started by revealing the team’s new five-week outreach program that will recognize the efforts and sacrifices of healthcare workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Canes created the program in partnership with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (Blue Cross NC) and through the initiative they will thank the vital members of the Triangle community by delivering professionally-prepared meals to local healthcare workers.

"The health care community has stepped up in a big way throughout this crisis," said Waddell. "We are proud to partner with Blue Cross NC to give these heroes the recognition they deserve."

Starting on July 1, the Hurricanes and Blue Cross NC will deliver 1,000 meals to the healthcare workers over a five-week span, and head coach Rod Brind’Amour will be assisting with the first delivery.
