You’re on a breakaway. Game’s tied at zeros and you have a chance to be a hero. But you pass it?

That was exactly the case for a Romanian hockey player in a 2018 IIHF World Championship Group B game. With just over 13 minutes left in the third period, Romania capitalized on an Estonia turnover and was consequently awarded one of the game’s best scoring chances. In need of a goal, the player, for whatever reason, figured the right play was to make a blind pass into no man’s land.

Blooper of the year?

Estonia turned the gaff into an odd-man rush but failed to capitalize. However, they would eventually win the game 1-0 on a last minute goal by forward Riho Embrich.

Others have pulled the unthinkable on a breakaway, including a select few goaltenders. Take former NHL tendy Anders Lindback, who pushed the net over after an awful giveaway.

Or this netminder, who thought it would be a good idea to fix his equipment while his opponent had a breakaway.

With the win, Estonia improved their record to 2-0-1 while Romania dropped to 0-3-0. They have scored just three goals to this point and take on Japan in their next contest on April 27.

This one has got to be one of the best moments of the tournament so far.
