Kia Nurse’s collegiate career came to a close on Friday night as UConn fell 91-89 in OT to Notre Dame in one of the two women’s NCAA Final Four games.

Despite falling short of the finals, Nurse and her team put up a valiant effort, with the 22-year-old tying the game up in the final moments in regulation after she stole the ball and went in for a layup. UConn trailed by five points with 21 seconds left, and stormed back to force overtime.

It was the fourth time in since 2001 that the Irish were victorious over the Huskies in the semi-finals, and also UConn’s first loss of the 2017-18 season to bring their record to 36-1.

 

The Fighting Irish will play Mississipt State in the finals. Mississipi State was the team that ended UConn’s winning streak of 111 games one year ago. Nurse and the Huskies have now won 147 of their last 149 games. The Hamilton, Ontario, product won the WBCA’s National Defensive Player of the Year earlier this week. Nurse capped off her four years at UConn with 10 points, 5 rebounds and two assists.
