The words Jamaica and ice hockey aren’t usually linked together, however, they may be more and more in the future.

Former Boston Bruin player and U-20 head coach Graeme Townshead told CTV News that he hopes to land Jamaica in an Olympic Winter Games. It’s not completely out of the question, considering his team is currently comprised of skilled Canadian and American players with Jamaican heritage. That said, it would still be a stretch. An arena does not even exist in the country, so the team is forced to hit the road for training camp and exhibition games.

In case you’re wondering, below is what a Jamaican hockey uniform actually looks like.

When you think of the tropical country participating in the winter games, the first thing that probably comes to mind is ‘Cool Runnings’; the John Candy film based on the 1988 Jamaican bobsled team that competed in the Calgary Olympics.

If Townshead can somehow lead the team to an Olympics appearence, there will undoubtedly be a movie based on the journey. It’s safe to say that the late John Candy would be very proud, too.
