Jamal Murray spent most of his rookie season coming off the bench for the Denver Nuggets, but now the 20-year-old is an everyday starter and one of the key pieces on the Nuggets’ roster.

The Kitchener, Ontario native was selected 7th overall by the Nuggets in the 2016 NBA Draft and went on to win the NBA Rising Stars Challenge MVP and was named to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team. Although he’s already adapted to the NBA lifestyle and has pretty much seen it all at the professional level, he still gets a little star-struck when he goes up against one player in particular.

Just like every other Canadian basketball fan who grew up during the late 1990’s and 2000’s, Murray was a huge fan of Vince Carter and did his best to replicate his idol while he made his way up the ranks.

It’s pretty awesome that Murray still gets star-struck every single time he’s within reaching distance of Vince Carter and especially when they go head-to-head in an NBA game. It’s not like they’ve only crossed paths once or twice and it’s still a big deal for Murray, he’s played against Carter seven times over his two-year career and he feels like a little kid every time.
