The St. Louis Blues are preparing for a Stanley Cup defence as playoffs are fast approaching, but they’ll have to do so without the services of veteran defenceman Jay Bouwmeester. In a scary moment during the Blues game against the Anaheim Ducks last Tuesday, Bouwmeester collapsed on the bench after experiencing and cardiac problem.

The game was postponed as hockey fans everywhere nervously awaited news.

Thanks to the quick and effective work of the Blues, Ducks, and arena medical staff, Bouwmeester is officially on the road to recovery. For the first time since the scary moment, Bouwmeester reached out to thank everyone involved.

I would sincerely like to thank all of the trainers from both the St. Louis Blues and Anaheim Ducks, as well as all of the first responders, the Anaheim medical staff and the team at the UCI Medical Center for their quick actions on Feb. 11.

Our family has felt the support of the entire National Hockey League family and the city of St. Louis during this time. We have all been greatly comforted by your genuine concern.

On Sunday evening, I returned to St. Louis and I am on the road to recovery. My wife and daughters are forever grateful for everyone's support and we will continue to have a positive outlook for our future.

It’s unclear what the future holds for the veteran D-Man, but for now we’re just thankful that he’s pulled through in the present.

Get well soon, Jay!
