Some hockey players have had some weird, weird nicknames during their time in the NHL.

Some notably odd ones throughout NHL history include Ron “Nuts” Tugnutt and Dustin “Penncakes” Penner, but Vegas Golden Knights forward James Neal got off relatively easy. Those who have followed the Canadian throughout his career are well aware of his nickname “Real Deal”. Cool, saavy, and all business.

TSN’s Jeff O’Neill raised a great point; why is it that some players are blessed with a sweet nickname like ‘Real Deal’ while others are given something lame like Odog?

Okay, so realistically, Odog is a pretty sweet nickname, and one which more and more fans have grown aware of since the 42-year-old started talking into a microphone. Still, a few of his buddies used the tweet as an opportunity to roast the guy.

Come on Odog, at least you weren’t given a nickname like “Nuts”. Things could have been a lot worse.
