Jesperi Kotkaniemi has been off to an impressive start to his NHL career, but all anyone talks about for rookies is Elias Pettersson. Kotkaniemi doesn’t seem to get why.

Obviously, Pettersson is off to a pretty impressive start to his career, with 18 points and eleven goals in his first 16 games. It’s a historic start for a rookie who has had a lot of hype coming into his career, but even when he scored a goal against the Canadiens, Kotkaniemi wasn’t impressed.

While Pettersson has definitely been more impressive this season, it’s important to remember that Pettersson was drafted a full year before Kotkaniemi. The Habs youngster is still 18-years-old and Pettersson just turned 20.

If the teams continue trending in the direction that they are now, these two could become real rivals in the NHL. They have the built-in Sweden vs. Finland aspect and clearly these comments are going to make their relationship any stronger. We always love to see this kind of competitiveness come out of players.

Apparently Kotkaniemi is just a chirper, because he does it to his teammates as well.
