Jimmy Howard established himself as an everyday starter early on into his NHL career after posting 35 or more wins in three consecutive seasons from 2009-2012, but a few down seasons led to him splitting time with Petr Mrázek.

After it was starting to look like Howard was on his way out of Detroit to make room for Mrázek as the go-to starter, Howard managed to bounce back nicely last season and has played like his old self ever since.

The 33-year-old entered the season as the Red Wings’ starter and it doesn’t look like he’s going to lose his job anytime soon. This season, Howard owns a 5-5 record with a .927 save percentage and a 2.53 goals against average and he has an awesome new mask for the 2017-18 campaign.

Howard’s new mask is one of the best ones he has rocked during his career and it’s an all-around amazing tribute to the entire Red Wings organization from former owner Mike Ilitch to all the retired numbers.

The mask was designed by Ray Bishop of Bishop Designs and is one of the nicest masks we’ve seen all season.

You don’t need to be a Red Wings fan to get a kick out of this awesome mask.
