This past weekend, Toronto Blue Jays great Tony Fernandez passed away at the age of 57.

Past and present players, as well as baseball writers and other Blue Jays fans who watched Fernandez in the prime of his career shared stories about the 5-time All-Star and their condolences.

On Wednesday afternoon, Cincinnati Reds first baseman Joey Votto honoured the late Fernandez in a way of his own.

As a way to pay tribute to Fernandez, the Toronto native wrote “RIP Tony. My Dad and I loved you” on the left side of his cap.

Fernandez spent 12 of his 17 MLB seasons in a Blue Jays uniform and made all but one of his All-Star appearances as a representative of the Jays. The utility infielder also won four straight Gold Gloves with the Jays, and played a big role in helping the Jays win the World Series in 1993.
