The anticipation is finally over, the World Series is underway! While players, coaches, and fans alike were feeling nerves ahead of the final series of baseball for the year, it didn’t take long for the fireworks to start.

In fact, the “fireworks” (meaning the first home run of the series, in this case) came faster than ever before!

After taking the first two pitches for balls, Braves leadoff man Jorge Soler launched a bomb into the left field seats to give Atlanta an immediate lead.

As it turns out, no player has EVER led of the World Series with a home run.

While it only comes once per year, you would think in the long history of baseball SOMEONE would have done it. While you can chock up the lack of leadoff dingers to players adjusting to their nerves, you could say the same thing about pitchers.

Either way, Soler really set the tone for the beginning of the game. By the end of the 3rd inning, the Braves had extended their lead to 5-0 while scoring at least a run in each inning.

Nothing like a leadoff smash!
