The Jets did not enjoy their matchup against the Broncos on Sunday. They lost by 23 points, failed to score a touchdown, but the most lasting negative came when their starting quarterback, Josh McCown, hit the turf and broke his hand. It marked the end of the 38-year olds season, and another blow to what has been a tough season overall for the Jets’ franchise.
In a heartbreaking moment, veteran quarterback Josh McCown and his lovable personality stepped up to the podium in a postgame press conference and totally broke down to reporters. At this stage in his career, it is hard to say whether this is an injury that he will be able to return from. While his play under centre has been solid, there may just not be room in the league for a 39-year old slinger.
While this seems like an isolated moment of overwhelming emotion, this has actually happened before to McCown. It’s hard not to feel sympathy for a player that is so dedicated to the game, and so devastated when they can no longer play it.
While we can’t expect every player to go out as a Super Bowl champion, nobody ever wants to see a player go out like that. Hopefully McCown is able to make a speedy recovery and find some work next season.
