While Nikolaj Ehlers has adjusted to living in Winnipeg, it can be tough to play overseas from everyone you grew up with. Ehlers – a native of Denmark – has certainly been challenged with those feelings over the past couple months as COVID-19 has made it hard to feel connected.

Luckily, Ehlers has a different family to help pick him up. The Winnipeg Jets family.

Upon hearing that Ehlers would likely be spending Christmas on his own, veteran Paul Stastny invited the young forward to join him and his family. Stastny’s wife also connected with Ehlers’ mother to ask what his favourite Danish meal was, and then she made it!

With Ehlers entering into COVID-19 health and safety protocol this week, a different Jets teammate stepped up.

Morrissey and his fiancé Margot delivered a massive lasagna to Ehlers. Immediately, Ehlers delivered the news to his Instagram following with an emphatic “WOW!” showing just how appreciative he was for the gesture.

While the Jets have some work to do on the ice if they hope to find success, they’ve definitely got all the off-ice stuff down pretty well.
