For the first time since 1986, the United States men's national soccer team will not be competing in the World Cup.

The US entered Tuesday night's game against Trinidad and Tobago a victory away from clinching a spot in the 2018 World Cup, but due to a 2-1 loss to Trinidad and Tobago and a 2-1 win by Panama over Costa Rica, the team dropped to 5th in their group and failed to advance.

On Wednesday night, USA and Toronto FC forward Jozy Altidore shared a heartfelt message with the country's supporters and apologized for letting them down.

Considering the US men's soccer program is ranked within the top 30, you can bet this is a major letdown to the team's supporters.
