Larry Walker is one of the greatest baseball players of all-time and we got further evidence of that on Tuesday night when MLB announced that the Maple Ridge, BC native has been elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Every aspiring Canadian baseball player knew who Larry Walker was as they were coming up and for the ones who were able to follow in his footsteps and make it to the big leagues, they got some guidance from the 7-time Gold Glove award winner.

In a recent essay told by Canadian Justin Morneau to Michael Farber, the 2006 AL MVP explains how Walker made him feel comfortable right from the get go, despite being on different teams, and had his back all the way to the end.

We can’t even imagine what it would feel like to get called up to Major League Baseball as a 22-year-old, but Walker knew all about that feeling and wanted to make sure Morneau was ready for what was coming his way.

The Model

Walker played 1,988 games over 17 years, and hit 383 home runs, 1,311 RBI, had 230 stolen bases and owned a career line of .313/.400/.565/.965.
