Although down 9-2 in the ninth inning, the Toronto Blue Jays gave their fans something to cheer about on Sunday. Kendrys Morales, having spent most of the year as a designated hitter for the Jays, took the mound as a pitcher to close out the game -- his first ever pitching appearance.

It only took 16 pitches for Morales to close out a scoreless inning, only giving up a single walk. He even  clocked as high as 87 mph on the radar gun, and secured three fly ball outs in quick fashion. You better believe that Morales walked off to a standing ovation, too.

Although neither Morales nor the Jays have been much good as of late -- the Jays are 2-8 in their last 10, and Morales is batting .150 on the year -- at least Jays fans could find some entertainment in seeing Morales make his debut as a pitcher. Position players pitching will always be consistent fun.

Hey, we still remember Pablo Sandoval taking the mound earlier this year. The Panda surprisingly pitched a 1-2-3 inning, and even whipped out a 69 mph curveball for a strike:

It looks like Jays fans will have to continue clinging to the little things for a while, at least until their team is able to turn it around on the field. So, when is Curtis Granderson taking the mound?
