Metallurg Mg and Jokerit went head-to-head in KHL action on Saturday night in Russia and the home team got a very lucky bounce, or three, early on in the third period to come away with a victory.
Already leading 2-1 and on the man advantage, the pressure put on by the hosts in their opponent’s zone paid off in a big way with some help of a few lucky bounces.
Jokerit defenceman and former Philadelphia Flyers prospect Oliver Lauridsen attempted to smack the puck out of the zone, or at least out of harm’s way and towards the blue line, but it didn’t go as he had pictured it in his mind. Instead, it went the opposite direction and landed right behind his goalie, Ryan Zapolski, in his own net.
To make matters worse, Jokerit ended up scoring late in the third period to make it a one-goal game, turning this own goal into the game-winning goal.
