The Toronto Maple Leafs finally addressed two blatant holes in their roster on Wednesday night.

Following a 5-3 loss to the New York Rangers, the Buds sent Trevor Moore packing with draft picks to the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for goaltender Jack Campbell and depth forward Kyle Clifford. Toronto was in dire need of a serviceable backup after Michael Hutchinson allowed three + goals in three of his last four outings, and it became more and more apparent as the season rolled on that the Leafs needed some sand in the lineup. They got it in Clifford, a two-time Stanley Cup champion, and when asked about adding grit to his new team, Clifford made it clear that he wasn’t acquired for his scoring skills.

Or should we say… ‘lack of’ scoring skills…

Kyle Clifford understands what his role will be with the #Leafs 😂😂

You don’t say Kyle!

A 35th overall pick in 2009, Clifford racked up 660 games with the Kings, helping the team win Stanley Cups in both 2012 and 2014. He notched a career-high 11 goals last season and has just 60 to his name since entering the league. Clifford has accumulated at least 80 penalty minutes in six of ten seasons in The Show so it’s safe to say he knows his role.

Toronto is third last in the league in hits with 16.8 per game, so they can use all the help they can get. He’ll make his debut tomorrow night at home against the Ducks.
