Kyrie Irving shocked a lot of people this past season when he started telling people that he believes the earth is flat.

Well, now that he’s in a new city, he has a whole new group of people asking him about that belief and he seems to have back-pedaled a bit on his stance on the subject. On Toucher and Rich show on CBS Sports Radio in Boston, Irving had this to say.

“HOST: Are you trolling everyone with the earth flat thing?

KYRIE: Here it is: all I want to be able to have is that open conversation… And when I say open, I mean open.

Listen to me: so what it did was, it was all an exploitation tactic. All it did was it literally spinned the world, your guys’ world, it spinned the world into a frenzy. And it proved exactly what I thought it would do in terms of how all this works.

And it created a division, or literally let all these people stand up there and throw tomatoes at me or have somebody think that I’m somehow this different intellectual person because I think that or because I believe that the world is flat and you think that the world is round. It created exactly that.

Absolutely. That was the intent behind it. Like, do your own research.”

Some people are taking this that he means he doesn’t actually believe the earth is flat, but he obviously doesn’t say that there. He kind of talks around it, saying that it was an “exploitation tactic”.

Now, he may have been nodding, saying he was trolling when they first asked him, but that’s still unclear.

Either way, he may have some shocked fans after hearing this, because he seemed to convince a lot of people. Not only did Sammy Watkins come out to say that he also believes the earth is flat, but Irving also apparently convinced a classroom full of kids.
