Kyrie Irving is no stranger when it comes to taking his love for television shows to his Nike line of shoes. Previously, he introduced a pair of Friends-themed Kyrie 5s, and now he’s upping the game with a whole set of shoes themed after different characters from SpongeBob SquarePants.

In an interview with GQ, Kyrie spoke about the process behind the shoes and partnering with Nickelodeon, but more importantly, he also explained which basketball position each SpongeBob character would play.

"Squidward is a shooting guard. He's the most selfish one. He just shoots his own shots. He doesn't care what's going on.

SpongeBob is really like... positionless. He can play the 3/4, go to the 1.

Mr. Krabs is like the power forward. He's literally the muscle of the group. He's always giving different business ideas on how to spend money and like, “The Krusty Krab is the best ever!” and he's competing with the Chum Bucket. He's like the Charles Oakley. Weight god who's coming in, but there are also teaching moments in it."

For his money, though, Kyrie says that Sandy would be the most talented player of the bunch — because she has the advantage of shooting on land. Otherwise, though, this all checks out! Especially ‘Weight God’ Mr. Krabs.

It’s especially fitting that Kyrie and Nike chose now to release SpongeBob sneakers, following the passing of SpongeBob creator Stephen Hillenburg in late 2018. Of course, given how much his show meant to so many, there have been all kinds of tributes for Hillenburg, even getting a nod at this year’s Super Bowl halftime show after an online petition went viral.
