It’s well documented that Patrik Laine and Nikolaj Ehlers are tight, but it turns out they’re not afraid to throw the odd chirp at each other.

After Laine grew out one of the more suspect beards in recent NHL history, he finally shaved it off and has kept a clean slate over the summer. So ahead of the season, we asked Ehlers, along with Blake Wheeler, Josh Morrissey and Jacob Trouba to design what his new look should be for the upcoming season. After unknowingly choosing Ehlers’, he gave a new nickname that fans probably haven’t heard before: his “Little Buddy Nik.”

Alright Patty, just because you’re 6’5 it doesn’t mean you can just go around calling people little! Besides, Nik’s 6’0 so it’s not like he’s small or anything. Still, fans were loving the new title…

When they’re not stuffing the score sheet together, the two are usually chirping each other in the virtual world. The players have admitted to getting pretty competitive with a controller in their hand, and Laine’s strongest chirp seems to be calling his opponents’ a ‘pigeon’. We’re guessing the two like to game PS4 more than Xbox…

Are you Team Xbox or Team PlayStation? 🤔🎮

Nik usually goes by ‘The Great Dane’ or ‘Danish Dash’, so we’re guessing Little Nik might not stick too long. We've got to admit though, it kinds of has a nice ring to it!
