He may not be the very best player in the draft, but Lonzo Ball has undoubtedly been the most talked about. Sadly, it’s not even because of his skill. Rather, it has been a result of his loud-mouthed father, LaVar.

The 48-year-old has made headlines for publically comparing his son to NBA greats, and overpricing an extremely average looking pair of shows. He has never been afraid to speak his mind, and as a result, he is being viewed by many as ‘extra-baggage’ in conversations about drafting Lonzo.

The Lakers, who hold the second-overall pick in the draft, are in a perfect position to draft the point guard. Ironically, the Balls are from California, and LaVar has publicly stated that he hopes his son plays for the organization. Although it seems like a perfect fit, the Lakers feel as though they need to reach out to Lozno’s former team, the UCLA Bruins, for advice on how to deal with the father.

It’s not uncommon for teams to determine the type of family a player comes from, however, it’s fair to say that an extra amount will be done for Mr. Ball, and It would be a shame if he actually had an effect on Lonzo’s ultimate draft position.

It’s going to be very interesting to see what happens in the coming weeks, but you can expect a wild reaction from LaVar if they choose not select his son.
