Bad, bad timing for the Toronto Maple Leafs.

One of Toronto’s most valuable players was injured on Sunday Night.

Zach Hyman was taken out in the second period of Toronto’s 3-2 overtime loss to the Canucks and did not return. Hyman was in the neutral zone on the wall with the puck when Vancouver defenceman Alexander Edler stretched out his right leg to make knee-on-knee contact with Hyman. The Canucks D picked up a five-minute major and a game misconduct.

With that said, It didn’t look too pretty. William Nylander and Auston Matthews both agree:

On Monday, the NHL's Player Safety Twitter account announced that Edler will have a hearing for the hit as well.

With the status of Hyman still up in the air, things are a little tense between Leaf nation and Edler. Let’s just say, they are NOT impressed with one of their star forwards being injured.
