Another game, another ugly loss for the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Buds extended their losing streak to two after getting utterly dominated by the Penguins in a 5-2 defeat. Sidney Crosby lit up the scoresheet with four points and at a point in the game, the Leafs trailed 5-0. This (obviously) did not sit well with fans and the harsh reality is that when things go bad, it’s all too often the general manager that takes the hit. So it wasn’t all that surprising that in hockey’s toughest market, #FireDubas was trending when things hit the fan.

Leafs nation did not take it easy on the second-year GM… at all.

Dubas has had a busy tenure this point, signing key RFA forwards William Nylander, Mitch Marner and Auston Matthews (though many believe each player is overpaid), but the team’s struggles have centred around defence and goaltending. Toronto has surrendered the third most amount of goals in the league with 200 but have scored the second most with 212. Despite the recent losses, Dubas’ bunch still sit third in the Atlantic Division with a 31-22-8 record.

If the losing continues, the ruthless tweets will undoubtedly keep pouring in. The Leafs have a shot at turning things around at home when they face the Penguins again on Thursday night.
