Not just one major sports championship, but two in the span of just 16 days for the city of Los Angeles thanks to the Lakers and the Dodgers.

Finally, another title for Los Angeles 🥵

Even one championship would be sufficient for a city to celebrate, but with the twin titles in the NBA and MLB, it must be even more tempting for Los Angeles locals to get out in the streets — especially with the context of the late, great Kobe Bryant’s passing this year.

Currently, the city of Los Angeles has announced no plans for a parade or public celebration for either championship team, as a result of the pandemic. However, that hasn’t stopped players including LeBron James and Cody Bellinger from calling for a parade.

It’s understandable that players want to celebrate in the city with their fans, but whether city officials consider that wise during a pandemic is another story. There can be a lot of risk even with masks and responsible intentions, as some of the videos from the Tampa Bay Lightning’s parade showed fans in close proximity to each other as well as with fans.

It’s also worth mentioning that one of the Dodgers’ players, Justin Turner, returned a positive test from COVID-19 and was pulled halfway through Game 6, while returning later to celebrate with the rest of the team.

For the time being, the Dodgers have played down the possibility of a public celebration, although that didn’t stop fans from flooding the streets of Los Angeles after their championship win.
