In October of 2020, just five months ago, a brand new form of collecting was created. Through the NBA Top Shot platform, fans have the ability to purchase “Moments” from NBA history, for a variety of different price tags.

It’s seen as a more digital form of collecting history, but thought of in the same light as collecting sports cards. We’ve seen LeBron James and Zion Williamson plays sell for over $100K already, but on Monday we saw an even bigger purchase.

The play? LeBron James’ iconic dunk over Nemanja Bjelica from 2019.

While some may not understand why someone would spend so much on this, NBA Top Shot has been growing exponentially in popularity. There have been nearly 500,000 transactions in the last week, and it’s not showing any signs of slowing down.
