The Eastern Conference leading-Tampa Bay Lightning hosted the New Jersey Devils on Saturday night and it turned out to be quite the battle.

Early on in the second period, Lightning centre Vladislav Namestnikov was drilled from behind by Devils winger Miles Wood and ended up going face first into the boards. As the 25-year-old remained down on the ice, Lightning defenceman Andrej Sustr stepped up for his teammate, only it didn’t go as planned.

Sustr ended up dropping the gloves with Wood up against the boards, but a shot from Wood completely shattered Sustr’s visor and left him all bloody and cut up.

The 27-year-old defenceman ended up leaving the ice to get repaired in the locker room and managed to return to the game shortly after. Since Ondrej Palat is currently on the team’s injured reserve, the 26-year-old winger snapped an after photo of Sustr’s face and he’s now got quite the battle scars.

Nice to see he’s all smiles despite having his face sliced open moments before the photo was taken.

As for the Lightning, they fell short on Saturday night as the Devils edged them 4-3 with the game-winner coming off of Wood's stick.
