It didn’t take long for Canada to strike gold in Tokyo!

Competing in the 100m Butterfly, Margaret Mac Neil of Ontario secured Canada’s first gold medal of the Tokyo Olympic Games. The thrilling race lasted just under a minute, and Mac Neil touched the wall first after just 55.59 seconds, just a fraction of a second ahead of Zhang Yufei of China and Emma McKeon of Australia.

Canada rejoices with a huge reaction, but nobody’s reaction was quite as good as Maggie’s herself.

Born in 2000, Mac Neil is only 21 years of age. Sounds like there’s a lot more on the horizon for the young Olympian.

Congrats on doing your country proud, Maggie!
