Marc-Andre Fleury is one of the most likeable NHLers in the league right now. The goalie endearingly referred to as ‘Flower’ has touched the heart of the hockey world with his funny personality, his genuine kindness, and his success on the ice.

That’s what made the unexpected postseason drama so unsettling.

If you missed it, essentially it all stemmed from a photo Fleury’s agent Allan Walsh tweeted showing the Vegas Golden Knights goaltender on the ice, with a photoshopped sword that read “Pete DeBoer” stabbed through his back.

Obviously Walsh wasn’t too happy with Fleury’s usage during the playoffs, as head coach DeBoer favoured the hot hand of Robin Lehner for a lot of it. The tweet was deleted almost 24 hours after it was posted, apparently by request of Fleury, and the Knights goaltender then went on to explain his dedication to the team.

Now, Fleury has doubled-down on his loyalty. Fleury recently spoke with Jesse Granger of The Athletic, stating that he is hoping to finish his career with the team.

Lehner will be searching for a new contract this fall, whether it’s with the Knights or not remains to be seen. On the other side, Fleury still has two years left on his contract. This would make it fairly unsurprising if Fleury isn’t dealt, but it’s nice to hear Flower hasn’t lost faith in the Golden Knights’ crease.
