Marc-Andre Fleury is truly one of a kind.

The Vegas Golden Knights goaltender has become a fan favourite throughout his 15 year career, proving to be one of the NHL’s most respected teammates and at times its best prankster. But last night in a road game against the Winnipeg Jets, he pulled off a tactic in an attempt to give his team an advantage late in the game and it didn’t sit well with all hockey fans. After Golden Knights head coach Gerard Gallant used his team’s timeout, down 2-1 with 2:23 left in the third, Fleury built a wall of snow in his crease to slow down pucks heading towards the empty net. Unfortunately for him he got caught and the referees were quick to clear it.

While some fans thought the move was brilliant, a few didn’t approve of Fleury’s tactic.

It’s a shame the wall was taken down because the Jets made the Golden Knights pay for pulling their tendy. Winnipeg managed to put home two empty net goals (scored by Kyle Connor and Mark Scheifele respectively) en route to a 4-1 win. The victory helped the Jets preserve the top spot in the Central division and increae their lead over Vegas in the Western conference by two points.

As the Oakland Raiders’ late owner Al Davis once said, “just win baby.” You can’t blame Fleury for trying!
