Mark Borowiecki was dished out another suspension on Monday after pleading his case to George Parros of the Department of Player Safety. The three-game hit came at the expense of Cody Eakin, who was hit by big #74 while skating with his head down, receiving some of that impact on his head.

It didn’t help Borowiecki’s case that the latest questionable hit came on the heels of his return from another suspension – a one game ban for an elbow to Urho Vaakanaienen of the Boston Bruins.

On Wednesday, an unhappy Borowiecki explains why he finds this latest punishment so “confusing”.

The following is excerpt taken from The Ottawa Sun:

“In my honest opinion, I thought the hit in Vegas was a good hard hockey hit and a good hard hockey play,” Borowiecki said following the Ottawa Senators’ morning skate Tuesday.

“My initial, gut reaction after that play, was that we were going on a two-minute power play. I thought (the Golden Knights) were getting two minutes for instigating (a fight). There was no call in real time by the referees.”

Borowiecki did acknowledge that he know his history and style of play had a role in the suspension, but insists that it won’t change the way he plays.

“I take a lot of pride in throwing a lot of body checks and the majority of them are pretty clean. I’m going to try and get back on track, but by no means am I going to change my game or the way that I play. I’m not out there looking to target guys or hurt guys. I’m just playing the game hard and sometimes you cross that line.”

Borowiecki also insisted that he was not blaming Eakin, and that it was not his intention to hurt the Vegas Golden Knight, but regardless of the case he is likely going to be spending three games in the press box.
