Canadian hockey player Mathew Maione became a hit in the hockey world earlier this year during the KHL All-Star Weekend and it wasn’t because of his on-ice abilities, it was because of his other special talent.

During the Skills Competition, the Toronto, Ontario native busted out his guitar and won over the entire audience with his rendition of The Lumineers’ ‘Ho Hey’.

While the 28-year-old performance certainly put his name on the map in the hockey world, it also earned him some recognition in the music industry, as well, and he was recently rewarded for his skills. After coming across Maione’s performance, Latvian band Laime Pilnīga, which translates to ‘The Happs’, had the Dinamo Rigo defenceman collaborate with them on their latest single ‘AWE’.

Maione probably expected to get some sort of buzz online from his performance during the KHL All-Star Weekend, but he probably never imagined it landing him a guest appearance in a music video and on a band’s record.
