Hockey players may be seen as tough and gritty athletes, but for the most part they’ve got a pretty big heart. We often see them at charity events, visiting hospitals, or all sorts of avenues to use their stardom for good.

The situation Matt Dumba found himself in following Minnesota’s 5-4 loss to Florida showed an even bigger heart.

According to this Facebook post from Nicholas Swanson, Dumba went out of his way to pull over and help a driver in need, despite it being 4 degrees Fahrenheit (-16 degrees Celsius). He even went to a nearby gas station to replenish an empty gas tank, the reason for the stalled car in the first place.

According to the post, Dumba didn’t want any recognition, but the driver thought it was too good of a story. In fact, if Swanson didn’t recognize Dumba, the driver in need may have never even known who had just helped him.

This all happened AFTER Dumba logged over 21 minutes of ice time. With Swanson being the only other driver to stop, it’s clear a lot of people drove right by the situation.

Not Dumba, he stopped and didn’t expect anything out of it, but we’re glad we got to hear the whole story.
