Over the past couple years multiple European soccer clubs have teamed up with Parley for the Oceans through their sponsorship with Adidas to create kits made entirely from recycled ocean plastic. Manchester United, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Juventus all have third kits made from the recycled waste and now you can add the University of Miami to that list.

On Monday, the Miami Hurricanes football team unveiled their brand new alternate uniforms that they will wear for their season opener against LSU and it features repurposed and upcycled marine plastic waste.

The jerseys aren’t entirely made out of recycled waste like the soccer kits are but they will contain over 70% of recycled ECONYL® yarn; a raw material transformed from fishing nets and other nylon waste intercepted in marine environments.

The jerseys won’t be their only piece of their uniform that will be made up of recycled waste as their cleats and gloves will also be made from recycled materials.

All the uniforms will be auctioned off after the game and the proceeds will go towards Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science, a research institution for the study of oceanography and the atmospheric sciences within the University of Miami.
