The NBA community came together to defend one of their own after Donald Trump took a shot at LeBron James via Twitter on Friday night.

The tweet was in response to LeBron doing an interview with Don Lemon of CNN after LeBron opened up a new public school for underprivileged youth LeBron’s hometown of Akron, Ohio. 240 at-risk third and fourth graders will be provided free meals, a bicycle, and a chance at prosperity by enrolling in the “I Promise” school that’s a part of the LeBron James Family Foundation. James and Lemon also talked politics where LeBron said the President used athletes and sport to divide the U.S.A.

Sports has never been something that divides people. It's always been something that brings someone together," LeBron said to Lemon.

"He [Mr Trump] is dividing us and what I noticed over the last few months is that he's kinda used sport to divide us and that's something I can't relate to because I know that sport was the first time I was ever around someone white."

In his tweet, Trump insulted James by saying “I like Mike” and that Lemon “made LeBron look smart, which isn’t easy to do.”

Mike, of course, is Michael Jordan, and the owner of the Charlotte Hornets released a statement saying he fully supports LeBron with his charitable endeavours.

“I support LJ. He’s doing an amazing job for his community,” read the press release.

The two best players in NBA history, arguably, in LeBron and MJ are now on the same team.

Active players currently in the NBA took to Twitter to come to LeBron’s defence like Karl-Anthony Towns.

The feud between LeBron and Trump came to light 11 months ago after LeBron tweeted about Trump rescinding the Golden State Warriors offer to visit the White House after being crowned NBA Champions.

Lemon, meanwhile, chimed in on the President questioning his intelligence with a link to his interview with LeBron.

Unexpectedly, the First Lady of the United States, Melania Trump, issued out a statement in support of James but did not reference her husband’s comments.

Jeanie Buss issued a statement on behalf of the Lakers organization stating that the team stands with LeBron.
