The many RFA dominoes in the NHL right now have yet to fall and at this point, it seems like every team and RFA is waiting for that first domino to fall in order to get a better idea of money, as well as term to compare and contrast depending on the player.

This RFA class is absolutely loaded and Mikko Rantanen of the Colorado Avalanche is near, if not at the top of the list.  The 22-year-old is coming off a career-best season (87 points, 31 goals) and according to his agent, the conversations involving the two sides have been few and far between.

As we stated before, Rantanen and the Avalanche are waiting for the likes of Mitch Marner or Brayden Point to sign a deal in order to have a better starting point in negotiations rather than setting the market with their deal.

The question now is how long will they wait.  If none of the RFAs blink, then we could be waiting into the season and that's the last thing Joe Sakic and the Avalanche want.
