The NBA on TNT crew has been doing a phenomenal job of awarding players with various trophies from the 2020-21 NBA season. We saw Joe Ingles surprise Jordan Clarkson with NBA 6th Man of the Year, we saw Julius Randleโ€™s young son surprise him with the NBA Most Improved Player award. On Wednesday, we got another, but it didnโ€™t exactly go as planned.

LaMelo Ball was a popular pick to win NBA Rookie of the Year, but he wasnโ€™t necessarily a shoe-in after the year Anthony Edwards had. In the end, it was Melo that took home the honours, and Charlotte Hornets teammate Miles Bridges was the one tasked with surprising him.

โ€ฆit took Melo a moment.

Melo โ€“ who was obviously totally unaware of what was going on โ€“ took his sweet time about everything. Heโ€™s leisurely wandering through the lockerrom, chatting in up with Bridges, and when the jersey is moved aside and the ROTY trophy is revealed, Melo is preoccupied with something else.

It didnโ€™t go as planned, but you could say that it was actually more entertaining this way.
